Parents Sponsorship

Parental Sponsorship

Canada has one of the most comprehensive family reunion immigration systems, in contrast to the United States and the United Kingdom, which have rigorous requirements for sponsoring parents and grandparents. Some even forbid grandparents’ sponsorship entirely.

Parental Sponsorship for Permanent Residency in Canada

Many Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents wish to bring their parents to the country. The parent has the option to be sponsored by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident if they want to live in Canada. The sponsor and the parent(s) they are trying to sponsor must meet several conditions. The good news is that having a parent who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident can be a terrific way to immigrate to Canada.

Describe PGP.

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is a programme that allows you to reconnect with your family through the Canadian government. The Canadian government will accept 10,000 candidates yearly on a first-come, first-served basis.

A Canadian citizen or permanent resident may immigrate to Canada permanently with their parents through parental sponsorship. Family reunification is one of the initiatives offered by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada).

Statement of Interest

A Canadian citizen or permanent resident who expresses interest in sponsoring the immigration of their parents must be the potential sponsor. They must complete a sponsor form and an Expression of Interest (EOI) form online.

Eligibility of Sponsors

Sponsorship of parents, their spouses, common-law partners, and dependant children may be available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are at least 18 years old (less than 18 years of age). Once their parent has obtained a green card and moved permanently, they must be able to maintain them financially for at least 20 years. People might not be allowed to serve as sponsors in certain situations.

Examination of Heath

Sponsored people participating in the Parent programme must undergo an immigration medical exam, which must be presented with the application.

Steps in the Parents and Grandparents Program application process are:

Step 1: If a prospective sponsor is qualified to sponsor a parent or grandparent, they should contact the sponsor through IRCC to express their interest.

Step 2: If everything goes as planned, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) requires the application and their justification for applying. A request for participation will be sent.

Step 3: After accepting the invitation, the selected applicants must submit their finished applications by the deadline specified. After carefully reviewing the application, the IRCC will decide.

What amount of money do you need?

If you are chosen to be a sponsor, you will need to prove that you have enough money saved up during the three tax years before the date of your application, up until the day your parents or grandparents become Canadian citizens. If your spouse or common-law partner wants to sign the sponsorship application as a co-signer, their income will also be checked based on your income. One of the following methods of income verification will be required as part of the sponsorship application:

Permit Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to get your tax data from the Canada Revenue Agency directly (CRA)

You must submit printed copies of your notice of the assessment.

Processing Period

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) processes applications for the parent sponsorship programme for a minimum of 20–24 months. After applying, the parents or grandparents must also take a biometrics exam. The processing time included the biometric test.
